CINCO DE MAYO - A DAY TO CELEBRATE IN THE SMOKIES!

Cinco de Mayo in the Smoky Mountains
Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for "fifth of May" and is a celebration day in the United States to commemorate the Mexican army's victory over the invading army of France on May 5th, 1861. Napoleon III was seeking to establish a Latin-American stronghold following the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848.
It began in the Mexican-American communities in the American West and today is celebrated as a day of Mexican heritage and pride. For non-Mexicans it is an opportunity to eat Mexican food and drink Mexican beer and perhaps get a T-shirt from your favorite Mexican Restaurant.
